More Greatest Moments in Dylan at the Grammies

While we're on the topic, let's relive the Soy Bomb Incident from the 1998 Grammy Awards.
Bob Dylan performed Love Sick from Time Out of Mind and around about the 3 minute mark, a young "multimedia artist" named Michael Portnoy swooped in to share a little What with us all.

Dylan's sideways glance is described by some as "startled" ... but I submit to you this evidence. Dylan kind of just ignores Soy Boy, he keeps the jam alive.
Oh, and PS: Kelsey Grammar is kind of a queef, isn't he?

Can you really say Dylan ignores the soy bomber? He steps aside allowing the cameras to pan over so as to only minimally pick up that security is hauling the s.b. off; once security is gone, he steps back into the center. it's nearly seamless. now who's the queef?

I think it's unfair to say he's stepping off to let the camera's pan over. Not to ascribe motive, but it seems more likely that he's just steppin' aside to move away from the "performance artist".

In watching these two, it always seems hard to resolve Dylan's self-awareness, fuck-you-ness, pro-ness/slimy-ness, and huckster-ness. (esp, cuz in this one he's slick, but in the other one he's not slick. this one he's playin' up his industry role, in the other he's playin' down his industry role. which one is TRUE? can't they both be true?) Do you have to know in order to like him?

He's probably slicker in the other one.

Slickster or trickster? I say the latter.

"My stuff were songs, you know? They weren't sermons," says Dylan. "If you examine the songs, I don't believe you're gonna find anything in there that says that I'm a spokesman for anybody or anything really."

"But they saw it," says Bradley.

"They must not have heard the songs," says Dylan.

"It's ironic, that the way that people viewed you was just the polar opposite of the way you viewed yourself," says Bradley.

"Isn't that something," says Dylan.
